The United Kingdom Supreme Court has refused an ex-Councillor permission to further appeal the Court of Appeal’s judgment in favour of our client Mr Matthew Cavan, also known as drag artist Cherrie Ontop.
After Mr Cavan took part in a Drag Story Time event at the MAC in Belfast in July 2022, he became subject of a targeted online campaign which included the spread of false and baseless allegations of him and manipulated images.
The judgment of the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal stands, confirming that the online harassment Mr Cavan faced after his participation in a Drag Queen Story Time event was unlawful, and the protective injunction granted in his favour was necessary and proportionate.
Mr Cavan said, “I’m grateful that I can now begin to leave this chapter where it belongs: in the past.”
