
A football player has been granted an urgent appeal hearing following legal intervention
After late night pre action correspondence for injunctive relief, the Irish Football Association confirmed they would set aside the decision of the Disciplinary Committee.
Phoenix Law act for a Youth who was due to play in the Irish Cup Final tomorrow in Windsor Park. He had been deemed ineligible to play after receiving a red card in an earlier game. Glentoran FC and the player have consistently contested the decision, and applied to have it set aside by the IFA Disciplinary Committee. The Committee by way of a decision dated 27th March 2025 reaffirmed the decision, and refused to constitute a hearing into the sanction.
Following this decision, Phoenix Law were instructed to apply to the High Court for an injunction seeking the formal quashing of the decision and compelling the IFA to hold an urgent hearing into the suspension, in advance of the Irish Cup Final on Sunday 30th March 2025.
Following the late night pre action correspondence, the IFA confirmed that the decision would now be set aside and an urgent oral appeal hearing has been constituted to hear the appeal in advance of the final.
