The Northern Ireland Protocol / Windsor Framework: A New Dawn for Human Rights Protections?
On 25th February 2025 our Mr Darragh Mackin delivered a lecture to trainee Solicitors and Barristers at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies (‘IPLS’) in Belfast on the significance of the Northern Ireland Protocol / Windsor Framework.

Phoenix Law are considered experts in the field of the Northern Ireland Protocol / Windsor Framework having been at the forefront of the key legal challenges relating to the Protocol in this jurisdiction. These challenges include:
- Re Dillon & Others [2024] NICA 59: Successful challenge under the Protocol / Windsor Framework to the Legacy Act provisions which granted immunity to perpetrators. This case was successful at both the High Court and Court of Appeal before the Lady Chief Justice.
- Re NIHRC and JR295 [2024] NIKB 35: Successful challenge to the contentious Illegal Migration Act (IMA) which sought to ground the Tory Government’s proposal to deport vulnerable asylum seekers to Rwanda.
- Re Angesom [2023] NIKB 102: The first challenge to come before the Courts in Belfast to determine what the term ‘everyone in the community’ means in the context of the Protocol / Windsor Framework.
- Re Brady 2024: A challenge to the lawfulness of the use of Encrochat evidence in criminal proceedings pursuant to the Northern Ireland Protocol. Awaiting a date for full hearing.
