U105 Presenter and Columnist in the Belfast Telegraph, Frank Mitchell, has this weekend published an article on our Mr Darragh Mackin entitled: “This solicitor has represented Jamie Bryson and Kneecap’s Mo Chara – he is a man for all seasons needed for all sorts of reasons” by Frank Mitchell.
An except of this article is set out below:
‘Darragh Mackin is arguably the best known solicitor in the country. There are a few who feature occasionally on the nightly news, but the wide variety of cases handled by his company has led to an ever increasing spotlight and, no doubt, an immense workload. He’s the guy with the quality suit, gelled hair and classy tie, guiding Kneecap’s Mo Chara through the media scrum outside the courts in London. Nothing seems to faze him. Sometimes it’s a quiet word in his client’s ear but occasionally he steps centre stage to give clarity on complex issues.
This young man has a media savvy well beyond his years. He’s the sharp presence you may have seen standing shoulder to shoulder with The Hooded Men in Belfast during their quest for justice. Scroll further and he is the supportive expert with the once abandoned families of the Stardust Ballroom fire in Dublin. Considering his success in that challenging environment it is no surprise some of the bereaved in Creeslough who lost their loved ones in the petrol station explosion have turned to him and his colleagues at Phoenix Law for help. His reputation sees a well beaten path to his city centre door.
A profile brings analysis, and he hit the headlines and raised critical eyebrows when he represented the so-called ISIS bride and ex Irish Army soldier Lisa Smith. Everyone, of course, is entitled to legal assistance but some solicitors might shy away from the most controversial of tasks. With him, there seems to be an innate ability to see beyond the chimes of criticism and do the best job possible for those in need of legal representation.
Described by many as the glamour boy of the courts, his obvious good looks and public charm may be benefits but there is no substitute for hard graft and case reading. Considering his ever expanding portfolio I can’t help but wonder if he ever gets time to sleep. He has this year represented both loyalist activist Jamie Bryson and Kneecap’s Mo Chara, highlighting his universal appeal. That in itself is a special quality. A man for all seasons needed for all sorts of reasons.’
