Phoenix Law has become the go to Solicitors in the area of Inquests and Public Inquiries as a result of their vast experience in appearing before Coroners, and Public Inquiries.  This reputation is founded upon the Team’s success in securing public investigations into some of the most controversial incidents and deaths on the Island of Ireland, and further afield.

We have been involved in some of the most complex and novel inquests involving those arising out of Police and Army shootings, legacy inquests involving historic events, deaths in custody, controversial and suspicious deaths to include missing bodies, and those deaths arising out of suicide.  Team Phoenix prides itself in its thorough and effective representation of families before the Coronial process in ensuring that they receive a specialised service.

Team Phoenix are instructed in a number of the ongoing Inquests described as legacy inquests before the Coroner in Belfast, arising out of events relating to the past.  We are currently instructed in the Glenanne Gang Inquest, the Mid-Ulster Series (Fox, Dillon, McKearney & McKearney), the Loughgall ambush, and the Ballymurphy Inquest.

We are also instructed by the families of the Stardust fire tragedy in Dublin in which a fresh inquest has been convened as a result of a formal application by our team.

In addition to appearing before public inquiries, members of Team Phoenix regularly advise and provide specialised advocacy to those individuals who seek the calling of a public inquiry.  Members of Team Phoenix were instrumental in the instigation of the Public Inquiry known as the Hickson Commission which was commissioned on foot of representations to address the failings of the Irish State bodies arising out of the activities of the notorious paedophile Bill Kenneally.  In addition, members of our team previously appeared before the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry (HIA) which was tasked with investigating the systemic abuse of children in the various institutions in Northern Ireland.

At present, we are involved in the ongoing representations to the Secretary of State for the calling of a public inquiry into the failings at Muckamore.
